TheKThree and I are back after taking August off to brainstorm new content for the channel and blog. Taking an Hiatus DOES NOT MEAN we weren't doing some SERIOUS drama watching.
WE THOUGHT WE WOULD WRITE DOWN OUR THOUGHTS HERE FOR KDRAMAS WE WERE WATCHING IN AUGUST AND KDRAMAS THAT PREMIERED IN THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER!
FOR MORE THOUGHTS ON ALL THESE DRAMAS

Caitlin - THE ACTING! THAT IS WHY I AM LOVING FLOWER OF EVIL! It isn't just the leads either. THE ENTIRE CAST is doing a FANTASTIC job! The acting is just something else, just lends to the suspense and the sheer insanity of the plot of this drama! It is an addicting drama where you want to click play on the next episode IMMEDIATELY after ending the previous episode. ONE OF THE BEST AND MOST ENTERTAINING CRIME DRAMAS I HAVE SEEN THIS YEAR!
Jenn - Calling it now: FLOWER OF EVIL IS GOING TO DOWN AS A KDRAMA CLASSIC! It's just so well constructed from story, to performance, to cinematography to music - it's truly the full package!! As I mention on almost every show (LOL) this is the show that made me a Lee JoonGi superfan. Can't wait to see how they wrap this one up. 'please stick the landing, please stick the landing, please stick the landing...'
Marisa - I AM RIVETED! We’re heading into the final episodes and I am completely invested in our main couple’s marriage and family, but how will they overcome being framed by the serial killer? It’s so over the top but incredibly well done. Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won have chemistry that is off the charts! I love them.
Caitlin - I am enjoying this drama A LOT! I am a HUGE fan of Joo Won so I was really looking forward to this drama. Sci-fi dramas will always grab me as well. So far, this drama hasn't disappointed me. It has action, mystery, GREAT special effects and also made me cry. Now there are some support characters that I am not a fan of (yet) and I am curious if romance will come into play in this drama AND WHERE THAT ROMANCE WILL BE, but I AM INVESTED IN THIS PLOT SO MUCH!
Jenn - Not gonna lie, Alice started strong for me but it's kinda meandering now that we're closing in on the 1/2 way mark. If you watched this week's Weekly Watchlist you know I have my issues w how the story is unfolding 😜
Marisa - I like it a lot but I get bogged down in too many questions! World building is hard – how do you keep time travel somewhat believable? I like the sci-fi elements and I love our leads Kim Hee Seon (playing 3 characters!) and Joo Won, but their relationship/s are a little unclear to me. I also think they spent too much time on the card and not enough on the story in the book.
Caitlin - THIS DRAMA IS MY JAM!! It is makjang, crazy GOODNESS! They are literally sticking a 100 episode crazy weekend drama into 16 episodes AND I AM HERE FOR IT! Lee Yoo Ri is such an AMAZING actress and this is her wheelhouse! We got murder, EVIL mother-in-law AND SECRETS GALORE! I can't wait to see the evil people get what they deserve and for us to find out all the secrets as they are reveals BECCAUSE WE KNOW THERE WILL BE A LOT!
Jenn - I keep hearing good things...may have to pick this one up!
Marisa - MAKJANG FOR THE WIN! This show is so over the top and so many of the characters are in pain and the pain keeps coming! Plus we have another adorable child actor with a surprising amount of depth. Our lead heroine played by Lee Yoo Ri doesn’t realize how strong she is but now (at the end of episode 4) she’s found a new purpose in life. Oooh bring it on!! And is our male lead played by Yeon Jung Hoon really the unassailable good dad? It’s so juicy and ridiculous and I love it.
Caitlin - Given that what premiered or what I have been watching in August has been CRIME heavy and INTENSE, this has been a nice change of pace. Nothing is revolutionary about it. It is pretty cliché and very tropey BUT for some reason I keep clicking play on the next episode. It is only 1 episode a week so that might be helping. It is a sweet and cute kdrama, so if you are looking for a change in pace...CHECK IT OUT!
Caitlin - I was excited for this drama because it was OCN (our favorite network) and had a very interesting premise. I was expecting creepy maybe even scary at times. I WAS NOT EXPECTING TO BE CRYING FOR 15 MINUTES STRAIGHT AT THE END OF EPISODE 2! No joke, I was sobbing for 15 mins. This is a beautiful drama about heartbreak, loss and relationships while also having suspense and crime. A perfect blend! I LOVE THIS DRAMA!
Jenn - OCN...you are one of the best and this show is going to break ALL OUR HEARTS along the way! So well done and really enjoyable storytelling.
Marisa - THIS IS THE KDRAMA MIX I LOVE! It’s a fantastic mélange of the supernatural, orphans, corporations and crime! Yeah it’s a lot but somehow this show is well balanced and I’m getting more and more invested as they start revealing how everyone is connected to each other. Go Soo is fantastic – he’s so fun to watch in this role that takes him from lost little boy to loyal hyung to “omg I’m hanging out with dead people.”
Caitlin - I am not going to lie, I was not a fan of this drama at the beginning. The opening was fine and intriguing BUT it got slow and confusing for awhile. NOW I AM ALL IN! Around episode 6, we get to the themes of what I loved about Season 1 of Stranger. Good Versus Evil, taking down corruption and uncovering all the secrets. I love Jo Seung Woo and Bae Doo Na and their relationship in this series so I am glad they are now working together. PLUS MORE ACTION IS HAPPENING! The plot ahs picked up and is now FULL STEAM AHEAD! So I am definitely enjoying this drama again.
Jenn - It took a while (when will they explain the purpose of the beach 'situation'?) but HOLY HELL when this team is firing on all cylinders there is NONE BETTER! I still need WAY more of our Dynamic Duo - Bae Doona & Jo Seung Woo but even in their own storylines they dominate and I LOVE IT.
Marisa - I love the players but I’m admittedly lost in the story. I was hoping for a clearer picture of how the multiplicity of crimes and coverups were tied together once Prosecutor Seo was kidnapped but alas, I’m still in the dark! But my love for Hwang Si-Mok (played by Cho Seung Woo) and Han Yeo Jin (played by my forever favorite Bae Doona) is great – I just need them to be the crime fighting duo I loved from Season 1.
Caitlin - I am LOVING this anthology of stories! Each episode/story is so unique and so different. Some episodes have been better than others but STILL A FANTASTIC SERIES! Korea is really excelling in Sci-Fi content right now and this year. I am glad that each episode is its own story because it is like watching a mini-movie. I feel like this series is just so different than what I have seen coming out of Korea in recent year so I hope that it becomes an annual thing or something. THEY ARE A LOT OF FUN TO WATCH! (My favorite episode has been Joan's Galaxy FYI)
Jenn - I have failed as a SciFi fan for not jumping on this. Will fix that SOON!
Marisa - So much sci-fi right now! I’ve watched 3 episodes and I am loving this anthology series! I think it really shows off Korean drama writing and directing (and the stories don’t have to sustain 16 episodes!) So far, I find these to be tight, well-crafted stories. And it’s fun to recognize so many kdrama actors in very different roles. My favorite so far is Joan’s Galaxy.
